Product Description

“Ecological awareness is dark-uncanny … a knowing that knows itself.”

Despite its title, Dark Ecology is less a strict ecological text than “a proposal for a logic of future coexistence.” Using poetic, playful language twisting like a moebius strip, which Morton argues is the strange structure of humanity’s present ecological awareness: twisted to have only one side. Morton explores the intertwined contradictions of beauty and terror, “between being and appearing”, exposing the systems, algorithms, and uncanny knowledge that has brought humanity to our current ecological crisis. The future Morton proposes is unknown and unilluminated, and in even just seeing it – such as the discovery of the caves – we are influencing its course.
